Pulsating Tinnitus: Reasons & Treatment

Saturday, 22nd May, 2010 by Jay Ambrose

Pulsating Tinnitus can be sometimes called Pulsatile Tinnitus. It needs medical attention right away simply because it is not an illness in itself, nevertheless it is just a symptom of something else going wrong in your body. Certainly the moment the actual affliction is addressed, the pulsating tinnitus is going to be handled too.

A major reason behind pulsating tinnitus is serious infection of the middle ear that causes higher blood circulation in the ear structure. It is for this reason that you perceive the tinnitus “beating” in time with your heartbeat. The Eustachian tubes are what link your ears to your nose passages and also the back of one’s throat. Pulsating Tinnitus is triggered when these tubes become blocked for some reason, (for example allergies, sinusitis and so forth) simply because this places excessive pressure on your eardrum.

One more reason behind pulsating tinnitus is middle ear discharge, which in turn is brought on by inflammation and/or infection in this part of the ear.

Occasionally a build-up of plaque inside the carotid artery (the primary artery providing blood to the brain) or jugular veins (that take blood in the brain to the heart) also can cause you to experience Pulsating Tinnitus. The build-up of plaque is induced by high cholesterol levels, so it is recommended to have your cholesterol levels checked out routinely.

Considerably more rarely (and in most cases only if you hear the pulsating tinnitus in only one ear) Pulsating Tinnitus can be caused by a tumour (in the ear or near the lower brain) or an aneurysm.

As I said before, if you are suffering from Pulsating Tinnitus, the very first thing you have to do is go and visit a physician. Hopefully the doctor is able to discover the cause of the main problem and, while doing so, treat your Pulsating Tinnitus too.

If your doctor is not able to find a reason for your Pulsating Tinnitus, do not quit and live with it! According to the American Tinnitus Association, there are an incredible number of tinnitus victims globally and a number of them have found a cure for their tinnitus.

Several sources also claim that stress and anxiety can worsen the symptoms of Pulsating Tinnitus, so you should attempt to include a calming exercise into your day-to-day schedule. It should be anything you find relaxing, provided that it isn’t an alcoholic drink or a cigarette, for the reason that this has been shown to make the symptoms even worse!
